Idea: Converting oneye into an iOS app

Hi. So, I have a cool idea: what do you think about converting oneye into an iOS app? The idea is easier than you may think, and it could be easily applied to every oneye server.

First of all: you just need <meta> tags for make an iOS app. No Mac, no Objective-C, no compiling, no App Store. Just a HTML file with a few extra lines.

You also need a 128x128 logo image for the app, which doesn't needs to be modified for iOS - when you install the app, the iGadget adds the "glass" effect to the icon. It could be called, for example, "ios-icon.png".

If you like the idea, please answer this message, and I will publish the source code. I hope you like it smile

P. S.: The index file of oneye is HTML or PHP?

Re: Idea: Converting oneye into an iOS app

espectall123,

I take it you mean creating some kind of wrapper to permit oneye to show up as an app on the 'home' screen (or whatever its called) of iOS devices.

Sounds interesting. Would you like to elaborate?

Oh, and the index file is php.

Re: Idea: Converting oneye into an iOS app

Hmm.. As far as I remember, we already have such a meta tag - at least for the iphone version. Please, check that out. In case I'm correct, we could simply copy the code I guess ;-) ...

Re: Idea: Converting oneye into an iOS app

Opps... Yes, you've done some things with the meta tags. However, it still needs a tag for the oneye logo. It would be just a non-adapted, 128x128 logo with, for example, the name iOS-icon.png and the following line (note: remember this is HTML, so use something like echo):

<link rel="apple-touch-icon" href="iOS-icon.png" />

Thanks for developing oneye! smile

Re: Idea: Converting oneye into an iOS app

No, we don't need that tag.
We just need to place three oneye logos in the root and iOS will find them by itself when "Add to Home" is requested in Safari. The logos must be PNG and must have a background color (so not transparent, otherwise they will display ugly). They must have these names (and obviously have the pixel size mentioned in the name):
apple-touch-icon-57x57.png
apple-touch-icon-72x72.png
apple-touch-icon-114x114.png
iOS will pick the more adequate, based on the resolution and dpi of its screen (so this makes it compatible with iPhone3, iPhone4, iPad, etc...).
Anyone has some time to create them? smile

Re: Idea: Converting oneye into an iOS app

Hi,

there are some online generators for apple apps icons, eg. http://www.pic2icon.com/apple_app_icon_generator.php, http://www.iconj.com/iphone_style_icon_generator.php, etc.
So, using doowee.png included in oneye you can have these results:
apple-touch-icon-iphone.png apple-touch-icon-ipad.png apple-touch-icon-iphone4.png

wink

Re: Idea: Converting oneye into an iOS app

Many thanks, Sable!
I compressed them with optipng (from 84,5 KB total to 36,2 KB without losing any quality....I love optipng!) and committed to SVN 7364! wink
(I haven't tested how they look in iOS, please somebody tell us if they look good smile )

Re: Idea: Converting oneye into an iOS app

What about using something like the following code?

<link rel="apple-touch-icon" href="touch-icon-iphone.png" />
<link rel="apple-touch-icon" sizes="72x72" href="touch-icon-ipad.png" />
<link rel="apple-touch-icon" sizes="114x114" href="touch-icon-iphone4.png" />
<meta name="apple-mobile-web-app-capable" content="yes" />
<meta name="apple-mobile-web-app-status-bar-style" content="black" />

Re: Idea: Converting oneye into an iOS app

The status bar should be "black-translucent", as it is currently (this hides the address bar in Safari and makes oneye fullscreen).
As per the other tags, I'm just thinking that it could be a good idea to store the icons into /extern/eyeX/themes/themename/images/apple-touch-icons/ and request them via the extern service, by setting the tags you mentioned

Re: Idea: Converting oneye into an iOS app

Looks fine smile .

Sable, could you recreate the icons, but this time without the white shadow on top, please?

espectalll123, could you try one of the latest SVN revisions, please? They should already come with these icons. I'd like to get some feedback, to know, if it's all working properly wink ...

Re: Idea: Converting oneye into an iOS app

I just moved the icons into a themes folder and registered them in eyeX. Should we register them for the mobile and iphone versions, too?

Re: Idea: Converting oneye into an iOS app

Hi all,
very sorry for being so absent in these days, I'm insanely busy....
Please note that the white shadow is added by iOS. To avoid it, you just have to replace the "apple-touch-icon" string in metatags with "apple-touch-icon-precomposed":

<meta name="apple-mobile-web-app-capable" content="yes" />
<meta name="apple-mobile-web-app-status-bar-style" content="black-translucent" />
<link rel="apple-touch-icon-precomposed" href="touch-icon-iphone.png" />
<link rel="apple-touch-icon-precomposed" sizes="72x72" href="touch-icon-ipad.png" />
<link rel="apple-touch-icon-precomposed" sizes="114x114" href="touch-icon-iphone4.png" />

I hope I will find more free time soon, guys!

Re: Idea: Converting oneye into an iOS app

Hi Luca,

it seems I was a bit unclear. I was talking about the white "cloud" and not of the white Apple bow wink ...

Compare the screenshot and the icons above and you should see what I mean.
